16 Fun Ways to Include AI in Team Building Events

Every day we hear and see how AI is reshaping our lives in numerous ways. But perhaps the way it has been most overlooked is the opportunity it gives us to launch playfulness and spark imagination in the workplace. When used creatively, AI can promote collaboration in new and exciting ways. If you are in search of meaningful and memorable experiences (and let’s face it, who isn’t?), AI may be the catalyst you are looking for to bring your offsite to new, surprising levels.

The ideas below are a sample list of ways you can introduce new technologies, bring teams together, and unlock creativity. When incorporated correctly, AI can be a powerful tool to generate fun and collaborative team building activities.

Whether your offsite is focused on communication, future goals, or pure entertainment, here are 16 creative ways to incorporate AI into your team building offsites.

  1. “Are You Smarter Than AI?” Game Show:
Feet First Eventertainment has created a new AI powered Game Show that asks, “Are
You Smarter than AI?” Through a series of team challenges, participants try to identify what is real, and what is AI. The Game Show incorporates AI into popular activities like Name That Tune & Jeopardy, while also introducing players to a bevy of new game mash-ups that will have your group thinking and laughing together. Game Show Extravaganza
  2. AI Photo/Video Hunt:
Feet First has included Photo re-creations in Amazing Race scavenger hunt events for over twenty years. Giving teams a stack of photographs to locate throughout a specific race location (Santa Monica, San Francisco, Dallas, New York City), allows them to explore the area in a way most people never see. Before AI, most teams could often only locate 5-6 locations during a hunt because they had to rely on strangers to help them locate the pictures. Using a program like Google Lens, teams can now input the photos into AI and find their locations much faster. This time saver now allows groups to visit 15-20 unique stops along the route, helping them discover more murals, fountains, and sculptures that are often hidden in plain sight.
  3. American Idol, Karaoke & Music Videos:
An incredibly fun and creative way to enhance musical team building activities likeAmerican Idol, Karaoke or Make Your Own Music Videos is by having the teams rewrite the songs with company-specific words and phrases. While it involves creativity, it also takes teams quite a bit of time to personalize their songs, which means they have less time to rehearse. Using AI to help incorporate company terms, products, or inside jokes helps teams rewrite their songs much more quickly. This gives teams more time to rehearse their songs, and their final products come out much better! It’s Only Rock & Roll! (Making Music Videos)
  4. Team Names & Cheers:
Most groups split into smaller teams for friendly competition during team building events. Why not have those teams use AI to come with their team names? Using these new team names, players can also ask AI to help them create team cheers to boost energy and provide spirit throughout the event.
  5. AI Match Game:
Using a series of words provided by the participants, AI creates quirky personality profiles or fictional characters for each player. Teams must guess which new character goes with which player. Many times it’s the wrong matches that generate the biggest laughs.
  6. Imagine It with AI:
After entering a few key terms , AI gives each team a prompt (“design a logo,” “create a new super hero,” “what if our company was in Hawaii?”) Teams compete to design a product or service that best encapsulates their prompt. Best used to spark laughter and creativity. At the end, everyone votes on the final products.
  7. EscAIpe Room:
Choose a theme, then ask AI to create codes and puzzles incorporating your theme. Teams will race the clock to “escape” before time runs out. If you have a little more time, have teams use AI to create puzzles for each other, then see who can solve them the fastest.
  8. Can You ID the AI?:
Before the event, prompts are entered into AI. Teams use discussion and the AI generated answers to try to identify the original prompts. Hilarity often ensues as teams are awarded points for both realism & creativity. Which way will your group sway?
  9. AI Photo Booth:
Upgrade the traditional photo booth with AI transformations and filters. Turn your team into anime characters, superheroes, medieval warriors, or their future selves. People leave with instant keepsakes and a lot of laughs.
  10. Envision the Future With AI:
Everyone wonders what life will be like in the future. Why not ask AI to help you imagine it? Input company-specific prompts, and have AI generate a science fiction version of your company 100 years in the future. Final products may include new locations, products, social media, and even future news publications. Create categories for people to vote on (most creative, most humorous, most realistic, etc.)
  11. Create an AI-Powered Scavenger Hunt:
AI can even help you design clues around a specific location. Simply type in the area you want to explore, and have AI generate the locations and puzzles along the route for your adventure. If you want to, you can even have AI adjust the difficulty of the event in real time depending on how quickly the teams arrive at each stop.
  12. Brainstorming with AI:
Set up breakout rooms throughout your location where participants can meet to discuss industry specific themes and ideas. Inside each room, teams can use AI to design logos, generate mock-ups, and even forecast profitability. The best ideas are presented at the end of the day.
  13. AI-Generated Company Awards Show:
Before the show, participants submit lighthearted facts or anecdotes, and AI turns them into a set of comedic, superlative awards that are read at an Awards Show–type Gala. Everyone dresses up and walks the red carpet on their way into the event. For some added fun, you can provide “press” to interview the guests as they arrive.
  14. AI Murder Mystery:
Use AI to help you come up with a setting and a basic storyline. Next, work with AI to develop a cast of characters, including personalities and backstories. Just by answering a few questions, AI can create clues, eyewitness accounts, and even photographic evidence (using an AI image generator.) Assign the parts ahead of time so your participants can arrive in costume, ready to figure out “Whodunnit?”
  15. Choose Your Own “AI”dventure Story:
For a collaborative experience, assign characters to your participants ahead of time, so they can show up in costume. Input characters, locations, and a possible jumping off point into AI, and ask it to create a story around them. At each juncture, have AI give you choices as to where the story should go next. People get the chance to vote on each choice, so no one knows where the story will end up.
  16. Picking Sides (AI Debate):
Watching a good argument can be like watching a train wreck. You just can’t turn away. Tell AI you are creating a debate competition, and let it generate some silly/outrageous topics for the participants to rally for or against. Make sure to request exaggerated topics so that the debate stays light-hearted and hilarious.

You’ve heard it all before: “AI is the wave of the future,” (whether we like it or not.) Using AI for team building shouldn’t focus solely on the technology. Instead, use AI to promote creativity, bonding, and humor. Because it is a new tool, AI can often help people engage with each other in surprising ways. When teams use AI to play together, it helps reduce the anxiety around the technology and replaces it with interest and assurance. Incorporating AI into your company offsite can add uncommon and unexpected energy to your agenda, while also introducing FUN ways your group might use artificial intelligence in the future.
