Paper Tower Teamwork Activity

For 2 people or more

20 minutes

Materials: 1 yard-sized ruler

Also, for each person or group:

10 sheets of paper

1 meter of masking tape

1 pair of scissors

This is a great activity to challenge people’s engineering skills. It can be done individually, or in groups of up to 4-5 if you have a large number of people.

The object of the activity is to build the tallest tower possible using only the materials provided. The scissors can be used for cutting, but they cannot be part of the structure. The tower must stand on its own and no one can hold it up. The tape can be used, however, to tape the structure to the floor or table.

After the time limit, the judge can walk around with the ruler and measure each tower. The tallest tower is the winner!

Fun variations:

  • To add to this activity, points could be awarded for the attractiveness of each tower
  • Tornado! Using a hair dryer or fan, see how close you can get to the tower before it topples over. Points can be awarded to the most stable tower

This is a simple, fun activity that gets your people thinking and engaged. We encourage you to give it a try!
